Mary J. Henry, 92

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Mary June Henry, 92, of 244 Bridges Road died Monday, May 17, 2010, at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield of natural causes. Born in Beaumont, Texas, to William S. and Adele M. Planchard Overstreet, she was raised in Shreveport, La., and attended St. Vincent's Academy and Fair Park High School there. On her mother's side, she was directly descended from Francois de Bellevue Barbin, who was sent to Louisiana by King Louis XIV in 1703 to form a colony at the mouth of the Mississippi River, and on her father's side, from Guillamet Fuqua, who led a group of persecuted Huguenots from France to Virginia in the 1600s. She and her husband moved to Williamstown in August 1985 to be near family. After raising her children, Mrs. Henry went to work in retail sales for Selber Bros. Department Store in Shreveport. During her 25 years there, she became a member of the Million Dollar Club, and was honored with the Employee of the Year Award. She was a singer with big bands in her youth and, through her music, met her husband, Warren H. Henry, who was a professional saxophone player. After his death, she worked at the Antique Center at Western Gateway Heritage State Park in North Adams, working there from its first day to its last. In her 80s, she began delivering meals year-round in Northern Berkshire for Meals on Wheels, until retiring for good at 87. Her family simply adored her and She was the beloved "Junie" to her grandsons. She became a regular client at 89 at the Northern Berkshire Adult Day Health Care Center and remained with the group until her death. She leaves very dear friends there, and her memory will be cherished forever by everyone who knew her. Her husband, whom she March 28, 1939, in Shreveport and on Jan. 6, 1986. She leaves a daughter, Bonnie Henry Bishoff and her husband, Robert, with whom she resided; a son, Timothy Warren Henry; two grandsons, Aaron Bret and Joshua Henry Bishoff, a sister, six nephews, a niece, and numerous grandnieces and -nephews. She was predeceased by a brother. FUNERAL NOTICE — A private memorial service for Mrs. Henry will be held at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours. The family requests no flowers, but hopes those wishing to remember her to make a donation to Northern Berkshire Adult Day Health Care in care of Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, 74 Marshall St., North Adams, MA 01247.
