Ida C. Fix, 99

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Ida Cornelia Fix, 99, of 102 Elm St. died Sunday, May 16, 2010, at Williamstown Commons. Born in North Adams on March 24, 1911, daughter of August and Lenore LaForest Blanquart, she attended North Adams schools, including the former Notre Dame Parochial School. Ida was first employed in the payroll dept. of the former Melanson Shoe Co. and also worked in inventory control at the Windsor Print Works. Mrs. Fix was employed by the former Sprague Electric Co. in North Adams for 35 years, firstin in the payroll department and, later, in time-study engineering department until her retirement in 1973. She first worked in the payroll department of the former Melanson Shoe Co. and in inventory control for the former Windsor Print Works. After her retirement, she and her late husband, Howard H. Fix, managed the Pittsfield City Motel on West Housatonic Street for eight years, until 1985. She was a communicant of St. Patrick's Church and a charter member of its Ladies' Guild. She also was a founder of the North Adams Santa Fund. She was a member of the Sprague Management and Quarter Century clubs. Her husband, whom she married on April 21, 1930, died on Oct. 6, 1990. She leaves a son, William H. Fix Sr. and his wife, Patricia, of Williamstown; a grandson, William H. Fix Jr. of Charlotte, N.C.; her nieces and longtime caregivers, Joan Dargie of Stamford, Vt., and Mary Ann DiLego of Adams, and nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, great-grandnieces, great-grandnephews and great-great grandnieces and -nephews. A daughter, Eleanor Fix died in 1936. She also was predeceased by four sisters and two brothers: Rose Lancto, Eva DiLego, Marie Blanquart, Flora Urbano, Henry Blanquart and John Blanquart. FUNERAL NOTICE — A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Mrs. Fix will be celebrated Thursday, May 20, at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church, Williamstown. Burial will follow in Eastlawn Cemetery. Calling hours will be Thursday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams. Memorial donations may be made to the St. Patrick's Food Pantry in care of the funeral home.
