Harry J. Anderson Jr., 84

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Harry James Anderson Jr., 84, of 25 Front St. died Monday, April 12, 2010, at Sweet Book Care Centers, where he resided for the past seven years. Born in North Adams on Dec. 12, 1925, son of Harry James and Bertha Lapan Anderson, he was educated in Williamstown schools. A Navy veteran of World War II veteran, he served from 1943 to 1946. Mr. Anderson was employed by Rickert Electric and by Taconic Lumber until is retirement. He first worked for Gaveart Film for a short time and then for 12 years at Conners Brothers Movers. He was also the sole proprietor of Anderson Sharpening Service for 25 years. He was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church. He enjoyed woodworking and participated in several craft fairs in the area. He was a member of the Williamstown Fire Department and of the Gale Hose Company for almost 50 years. He leaves his wife of 49 years, the former Elaine Richmond; two daughters, Denise Anderson of Anchorage, Alaska, and Susan Berrill and her husband, William, of Brownsville, Vt.; a son, Peter Anderson and his wife, Rachel, of Clarksburg; a sister, Janet Cunningham of Williamstown; a brother, Donald Anderson of Williamstown; two grandchildren, Jasmine and Geoffrey, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased in death by his sister Isabel Anderson Singly. FUNERAL NOTICE â€' Funeral services for Mr. Anderson will be celebrated Saturday, April 17, at 11 a.m. at St. John's Episcopal Church of Williamstown. Burial with military honors will follow in Eastlawn Cemetery. Calling hours will be Friday from 4 to 7 at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Gale Hose Company or Village Ambulance Service through the funeral home.
