Edmond E. Trudeau, 95

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Edmond Eugene Trudeau, 95, died Saturday, Feb. 13, 2010, at Blair House in Worcester following a long illness. Born in North Adams on July 11, 1914, son of Eugene and Laura Bastien Trudeau, he attended the former Notre Dame Elementary School in North Adams and entered the former Assumption Preparatory School in Worcester in 1932. He received his bachelor of arts degree from Assumption College in 1936 and, a year later, his master's degree from the former Teachers College at Columbia University. He resided in North Adams until moving to Williamstown in 1982. An Army veteran of World War II, he enlisted in the Air Forces in July 1942 and was transferred to Army Intelligence nine months later, serving as a special agent in the Counter-Intelligence Corps. Mr. Trudeau was a longtime language instructor at Drury High School in North Adams, where he began teaching in September 1940. He returned after the war in 1946 and, in 1959, was named chairman of the department of foreign languages. He was granted a John Hay Fellowship the summer of 1965 at Williams College. He retired in July 1976. While at Drury, he was an active member of the North Adams Teachers Association, serving both as president and for several years as a member of its negotiation committee. He was also a member of the Massachusetts Teachers Association and the National Education Association; a former member of Union St. Jean-Baptiste of the American Association of Teachers of French, American Legion Post 125 in North Adams and of the Army Counter-Intelligence Corps Veterans. He was a longtime communicant of the former Notre Dame Church in North Adams, where he taught Confraternity of Christian Doctrine in the 1960s and later served on the Parish Council and the Bridge Committee. His wife, the former Pearl R. Beaudin, whom he married Sept. 3, 1943, is deceased. He leaves a son, Daniel G. Trudeau and his wife, Marie Barry Trudeau, of Stamford, Vt; two grandsons, Daniel Trudeau and his wife, Angela, of Dover, Vt., and Jeffrey Trudeau and his wife, Kristin, of Heartwellville, Vt.; three great-grandchildren, Jack and Brianna Trudeau of Dover and Bella Trudeau of Heartwellville, and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and grandnephews and grandnieces. He was predeceased by his brothers Charles Trudeau in 1993 and Lawrence Trudeau in 2005. FUNERAL NOTICE — Funeral services for Mr. Trudeau will be held Friday morning, Feb. 19, at 11 from Auge-San Soucie-Simmons Funeral Home, 46 North Church St., North Adams. Burial will be at Southview Cemetery at a later date. A calling hour will be held Friday from 10 until the time of the service at the funeral home.
