Mary Salisbury, 80
SHEFFIELD, Mass. — Mary Salisbury, 80, of Pine Lane, Ashley Falls, died Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2009, at Fairview Hospital in Great Barrington.
Born in Great Barrington on Feb. 6, 1929, daughter of Ralph and Gladys Brewer Wheeler, she was raised from a young age by her aunt and uncle, John and Emma Proper, after her mother died. She attended the former Searles High School in Great Barrington.
Mrs. Salisbury was an indirect caregiver at Geer Nursing Home in Canaan, Conn. She had previously worked in the office at Mount Everett Regional School, and at Great Barrington Rehabilitation and Nursing Center and Fairview Hospital, where she was a nurse's aide.
She was a member of the VFW Ladies' Auxiliary in Canaan.
Her husband, Herbert Salisbury, whom she married May 19, 1957, died May 9, 1989.
She leaves two sons, George "Michael" Rood of Winsted, Conn., and Craig Salisbury of Ashley Falls; a daughter, Elaine Dalmaso of Housatonic; two sisters, Ruth Avenia of Hillsdale, N.Y., and Constance Lockenwitz of West Stockbridge; a brother, Roland Wheeler of North Egremont; two grandchildren, Tammy Dalmaso and Michael Rood, and five great-grandchildren, Hope, Shannon, Gabriel, James and Colby.
She was predeceased by her brother Ralph Wheeler and her grandson Jeremy Rood.
FUNERAL NOTICE — The services celebrating the life of Mrs. Salisbury will be conducted Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2010, at noon at Finnerty & Stevens Funeral Home by the Rev. Betty LeGeyt. Burial will be at Mountain View Cemetery in Canaan at a later date.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, Jan. 5, from 11 until the time of the service at the funeral home.
