Clara R. Zinnermon, 94

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — Clara Ruth Bell Zinnermon, 94, of South Main Street died Thursday, Dec. 24, 2009, at Fairview Commons. Born in Atlantic City, N.J., on Aug. 2, 1915,, daughter of William and Ida Robinson Ballard, she attended Berringer High School in Newark, N.J. She moved to Great Barrington in 1959 to work at the former Grey Fox Camp in New Marlborough. Mrs. Zinnermon was a receptionist and a volunteer for Construct Inc. from 1989 until January 2009, when she reluctantly retired at 93. She was considered a kind and compassionate receptionist, assisting all those who crossed Construct's threshold on her watch. She had earlier worked for many years in the dietary department at Fairview Hospital, retiring in 1985. She was a longtime member of the Clinton AME. Zion Church. She enjoyed traveling with Sheffield Tours and Consaul Tours. She also enjoyed spending time at the Claire Teague Senior Center and was a member of the James A. Modolo VFW Post. A snappy dresser, Mrs. Zinnermon loved to wear big, colorful hats when she went out. She enjoyed being with friends, especially if dancing was involved, and never turned down an invitation to a party. Her husband, Walter Zinnermon, died Sept. 27, 1992. She leaves two sons, Arnold Bell and Lawrence Ballard, and six grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE — Services celebrating the life of Mrs. Zinnermon will be conducted Thursday, Dec. 31, at noon at Finnerty & Stevens Funeral Home in Great Barrington by the Rev. Louise Williamson. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery in Great Barrington. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 11 until the time of the service.
