Raymond A. Lavigne, 71

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. - Raymond Alfred Lavigne, 71, of 353 Walnut St. died Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2009, at North Adams Regional Hospital. Born in Adams on July 12, 1938, son of Arsene and Marguerite Belanger Lavigne, he attended schools there, including the former Notre Dame School. He lived in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., for a few years until returning to Adams. He was an Air Force veteran, serving from 1955 until his honorable discharge in 1961. Mr. Lavigne was employed by the New England Lime Co. and its successors, Pfizer Inc. and Specialty Minerals, until retiring with more than 30 years of service. He was first employed by the former Columbia Cash Market and later the former LL Brown Paper Co. He was a communicant of St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church, where he was a Eucharistic minister. He enjoyed traveling to shrines such as Fatima and Lourdes and other parts of Italy and Europe. He also traveled to New Jersey and Washington, D.C. He and his wife, the former Donna M. Giguere, were married Oct. 8, 1960, in the former St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Adams. Besides his wife, he leaves three sons, David M. Lavigne and John F. Lavigne, both of Bradenton, Fla., and Jeffrey A. Lavigne of North Adams; a brother, Leo Lavigne of Adams; two sisters, Jean Aveyard of Adams and Theresa Morin of North Adams; eight grandchildren; a great-grandchild, his mother-in-law, Catherine Giguere of North Adams, and nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. He was predeceased by his daughter, Marla S. Lavigne on Aug. 4, and two brothers and a sister, Amanda Coe and Paul and Albert Lavigne. FUNERAL NOTICE - Services for Mr. Lavigne will be Tuesday, Dec. 22, at 10:15 a.m. from Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., North Adams, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Monday, Dec. 21, from 4 to 7. Donations may be made to St. Elizabeth's Church in care of the funeral home.
