Brian D. Marlow, 55

CLARKSBURG, Mass. — Brian David "Bear" Marlow, 55, of 70 McArthur Drive died Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2009, at home. Born in North Adams on Nov. 14, 1954, son of Donald A. Marlow and of Angela DeMayo Marlow, he attended North Adams schools and graduated from Drury High School in 1972. He graduated from what was then the University of Lowell in 1976 with a bachelor of science degree in accounting. A certified public accountant, Mr. Marlow began his career with the former MacAlpine & Murray, purchasing it in 1982 with Thomas Gajda to form Gajda, Marlow & Co. In 2004, he established Marlow & Co. Inc. in North Adams and, in 2005, went into partnership with Michael McConnell in Williamstown, forming Gajda, Marlow & McConnell there. He was a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Massachusetts Society of CPAs and the Berkshire Chamber of Commerce, of which he was former treasurer. He was the longtime treasurer for the Committee to Elect Daniel Bosley, a proud member of Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art and a Friend of the North Adams Public Library. Mr. Marlow enjoyed spending time with family and friends; working out when he wasn't working; avidly playing or watching basketball (especially the Celtics); and casting out a fishing line into the Atlantic, his home away from home. He was dedicated to his family, friends, clients and community, said family, and his life was governed by love, loyalty and humor. He and his wife, the former Debra Simon, were married on March 10, 1979. Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, Michael J. Marlow of Clarksburg and James A. Marlow of Hanover, N.H.; two daughters, Candace L. Marlow of North Adams and Samantha L. Marlow of Clarksburg; three brothers, Jeffrey Marlow of Ashland, Ore., Donald "DJ" Marlow Jr. of Fairfax, Va., and Brent Marlow of Pittsfield, and nieces, nephews and grandnieces. His twin brother, Bruce Marlow, died in 1992. FUNERAL NOTICE — The funeral for Brian Marlow will be Saturday, Dec. 5, 2009, at 9:30 a.m. from Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, 521 West Main St., North Adams, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30 at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Friday, Dec. 4, from 4 to 7. Memorial contributions may be made to North Adams Regional Hospital in care of the funeral home.

He was a genuinely good guy and ran a great business. And particularly kind to me when I was assigned to (attempt to) block him during football practices many years ago at Drury.
