Robert J. Heideman, 73
CLARKSBURG, Mass. â€' Robert J. Heideman, 73, of 56 Pine Ave. died Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2009, at North Adams Regional Hospital after being suddenly stricken.
Born in North Adams on Feb. 6, 1936, son of Adolph J. and Anna Thomann Heideman, he attended North Adams schools and graduated from Drury High School in 1953. He also completed undergraduate courses at the former North Adams State College.
Mr. Heideman worked at the former Sprague Electric Co. for 43 years in Process Engineering until May 3, 1996, when the plant closed. He had been promoted to engineering/training supervisor in 1995. He then spent four months traveling to West Palm Beach, Fla., to transfer the company's package-line operation. He also handled the final build operations on tantalum foil capacitors, and in earlier years, was instrumental in supplying anodized tantalum foil for the SkyLab Space Project.
He was a communicant of the former St. Francis of Assisi Church in North Adams. He was secretary of the Clarksburg Board of Appeals for more than 35 years. He was a life member of the Stamford Sportsman's Club and was a member of the Northern Berkshire Retired Men's Club, the Retired Men's Bowling League, Monday Morning McDonald's Club and the Adams Turners.
He enjoyed fishing, boating, hunting, motorcycles, gardening, bowling mushrooming, snowmobiling and spending time with his grandchildren.
He and his wife, the former Alice R. Lubowicz, were married on June 18, 1960, in St. Stanislaus' Church in Adams.
Besides his wife, he leaves two daughters, Karen Anne Cyr and Audrey Lynne Matys, both of Clarksburg; a son, Robert Alan Heideman of Adams; two sisters, Frances Kurpiel and Evelyn Mendel, both of Naples, Fla., three grandchildren, Alex Heideman, Autumn Matys and Lauren Matys, and nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brothers Martin Heideman and Adolph Heideman Jr..
FUNERAL NOTICE â€' The funeral for Mr. Heideman will be Saturday, Nov. 21, at 10:15 a.m. from Fkynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 from St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church (St. Anthony's). Burial will follow in Clarksburg Cemetery.
Calling hours at the funeral home will be Friday, Nov. 20, from 4 to 7. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Eleanor Sonsini Animal Shelter or the Second Chance Animal Shelter in care of the funeral home.
