James R. Northrup, 89

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — James Richards Northrup, 89, of 12930 Dorman Road, Pineville, N.C., a North Berkshire native, died Saturday, Oct. 24, 2009, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill, S.C. Born in North Adams on June 19, 1920, son of Carl R. and Geraldine Richards Northrup, he attended Adams schools and graduated from the former Adams High School. He was a longtime resident of 587 West Main St. until moving to North Carolina in 1998. He was an Army Air Forces veteran World War II. Mr. Northrup joined the United Association of Plumbers and Pipefitters in 1948 and worked throughout New England until his retirement in 1977. He was a member of the White Oaks Congregational Church in Williamstown and of Frank R. Stiles Post 125 American Legion. He enjoyed woodworking, oil painting and watercolors. His wife, the former Martha Elizabeth Ostrander, who he married July 20, 1941, died on Oct. 28, 2006. He leaves a son, James R. Northrup and his wife, AnnMary, of Indian Land, S.C.; a sister, Barbara Busl and her husband, Willard, of Clarksburg; two grandchildren, Stephen Northrup and his wife, Elizabeth, of Bethesda, Md., and Kristen Homka and her husband, David, of Charlotte, N.C., four great-grandchildren, Walker Northrup, Everett Northrup, Flannery Northrup and Natalie Ellen Homka, and nieces and mephews. He was predeceased by two brothers and two sisters, Carl Northrup, Donald Northrup, Verna McFarland and Marion Miller. FUNERAL NOTICE — The funeral for Mr. Northrup will be Tuesday, Nov. 3, at 11 at White Oaks Congregational Church in Williamstown. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery in North Adams. Calling hours will be at the church Tuesday from 10 to the time of the services. Memorial donations are suggested to the White Oaks Congregational Church in care of Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., North Adams, MA 01247.

Just want to let you know i am thinking of you and to say that Jim will be sadley missed.He was always so wonderfull to me and i enjoyed my vist with him when he came back home.AS a child growing up in the neighborhood i new we always had a extra set of eyes on us kids .Some of my great memories were all of us doing family outings Youre all in my prayers Donna L Flaherty Dupras
