Ernest W. Beverly, 91

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Ernest W. Beverly, 91, of 956 North Hoosac Road died on Thursday, Oct. 22, 2009, at Sweet Brook Care Centers. Born in North Adams on Sept. 12, 1918, son of Henry Harrison and Bessie Sweet Beverly, he graduated from the former Williamstown High School with the class of 1936. A Navy veteran of World War II, he was stationed in Oklahoma and California. Mr. Beverly was employed as a machine erector for more than 34 years by the former James Hunter Machine Co., now Morrison Berkshire, in North Adams. His work took him throughout the nation, Canada, South America and other parts of the world installing textile machinery manufactured by his employer. In 1962 and 1963, during the Cold War, he spent 18 months in Kalinin, Russian, then part of the Soviet Union, installing machinery. He enjoyed sharing stories about his extensive world travels. He was a member of the American Legion and of the Berkshire Royal Arch Masons and Commandery 22, Knights Templar. His wife, the former to L. Madeline Learned, to whom he was married for more than 65 years, died in August 2008. He leaves three sons, Bruce E. Beverly and his wife, Elise, of Auburn, Mark W. Beverly Sr. and his wife, Tina, of New Ashford and Dana L. Beverly Sr. of Williamstown; nine grandchildren, Brooke Beverly of Oxford, Lauren Beverly Carney of South Kingstown, R.I., Mark Beverly Jr. of New Ashford, Matthew Beverly of Waltham, Sandra Beverly of Worcester, Lucas Beverly of Amherst, Malinda Beverly Hayden of North Adams and Anthony Beverly and Dana Beverly Jr., both of Clarksburg, and four great-grandchildren, Cole Carney, and Brodie, Ashlyn and Delaney Hayden. FUNERAL NOTICE — Services for Mr. Beverly will be private and there will be no calling hours. Contributions in his memory may be made to the Barton Center for Diabetes Education, P.O. Box 356, North Oxford, MA 01537-0356. Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall Street, North Adams, is in charge of arrangements.
