Edith S. Johnson, 80

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Edith Sterling Johnson, 80, of Franklin Street, died Monday, Oct. 26, 2009, at North Adams Regional Hospital surrounded by her family after a fighting courageous battle against ill health since February. Born in Hoosick Falls, N.Y., on Sept. 11, 1929, she was the daughter of William and Mary Peters Clark, who had emigrated from Dundee, Scotland, a few years before her birth. They moved to Chestnut Street in North Adams when she was a child and she graduated from Drury High School. Mrs. Johnson was a devoted mother and homemaker. She was a member of First Congregational Church. She also was a member of the Red Hat Society and enjoyed her Friday lunch meetings with many special friends. She had attended her last meeting two weeks ago. She also recovered enough to enjoy her newest great-granddaughter and walk down the aisle at her granddaughter Jennifer Allard's wedding. A great cook, she specialized in comfort food. Her family described her expecting the best of them and as the glue that kept them together. She and her husband, Herbert William Johnson, were married June 27, 1953. Besides her husband, she leaves three daughters, Billie Lynn Allard and her husband, Edward, Karen Chase and her husband, Charles, and Kimberly Soller; a son, Bruce Johnson; a brother, George Clark of Phoenix, Ariz.; nine grandchildren, Scott Allard, Kate Allard Manuel, Jennifer Allard Downey, Bryce Johnson, Konnar Johnson, Kade Johnson, Kyle Soller, Kurt Soller and Meredith Chase, and four great-granddaughters, Bella, Lula, Kylie and Adah. She was predeceased by her brothers Harold, Ronald and William Clark. FUNERAL NOTICE — Services to celebrate the life of Mrs. Johnson will take place Thursday, Oct. 29, at 11 at First Congregational Church of North Adams. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery. Calling hours will be Wednesday, Oct. 28, from 4 to 7 at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested for the North Adams Regional Hospital or the North Adams Ambulance Service through the funeral home. We thank God for letting us have her in our life for 80 years. We cherish the love and care she showed for all of us and we know that she is in Heaven right now, up above, singing "That is Love."
