Fred W. Pinkall, 81

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. â€' Fred William Pinkall, 81, of 382 Eagle St. died Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2009, at North Adams Regional Hospital surrounded by his loving wife and family. Born in Lee on Oct. 20, 1927, son of Frederick Pinkall and Marguerite Tollerton Pinkall Van Deusan. He attended Lee schools and was a member of the Lee High School class of 1945, graduating after World War II with the class of 1947. He also graduated from the Sprague Franklin Institute. A Navy veteran of World War II, he enlisted on Nov. 21, 1944, and was honorably discharged on Aug. 8, 1946, with the rank of seaman, first class. He also served in the Air Force during the Korean War. Mr. Pinkall operated the Corner Market on River Street, which he purchased in partnership with Salvatore Bua and John Andrews in 1972. He retired in 1989. He was first employed at the former Richmond Hotel in and then joined the former Sprague Electric Co., becoming an engineer in 1956 and a foreman in 1968. In 1970, he resigned to operate the kitchen and bar at the North Adams Country Club. Following his retirement, he worked part time for the former JT Bus Lines and the Dufour Bus Lines until 1996. He was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church. He was a member of the Northern Berkshire Retired Men'’s Club. He played golf daily and was a member of Stamford (Vt.) Valley Golf Course. He was an excellent craftsman and was well known for his woodworking. He was like a second father to his many nieces and nephews. He leaves his wife, the former Mary Gloria Bua, whom he married Sept. 7, 1957; two sisters, Theresa Chandler of Turlock, Calif., and Faith Harris of Colds Neck, N.J., and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. A brother, Robert Pinkall, died in 1992. FUNERAL NOTICE â€' The funeral for Mr. Pinkall will be celebrated Friday, Oct. 16, at 10 from Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, 521 West Main St., North Adams, by his nephew, the Rev. Christopher Richard. Burial will follow in Southview cemetery. Calling hours will be Thursday from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to North Adams Regional Hospital in care of the funeral home.
