John R. Mulvaney, 92

CLARKSBURG, Mass. â€' John Richard "Jack" Mulvaney, 92, of 58 Carson Ave. died Thursday, Sept. 24, 2009, at Williamstown Commons. Born in Clarksburg on Jan. 9, 1917, a son of David and Emma Mary Reindeau Mulvaney, he attended schools in Clarksburg and graduated from Drury High School in North Adams in 1934. A decorated Army veteran of World War II, he attained the rank of staff sergeant Mr. Mulvaney was employed by Massachusetts Electric Co. in North Adams for 25 years, retiring in 1978. Before that, he worked at the former Strong-Hewat Co. and the former Briggsville Store. He also had worked part time at the former Williamstown News Stand. He was a lifelong and active communicant of the former St. Francis of Assisi Church, which he served as an acolyte, Eucharistic minister and usher. He was a former member of the Clarksburg Police Department and a founding member of the Fire Department. He served as chairman of the Clarksburg School Committee for six years and was a member of the Clarksburg Senior Center. He also was a member of the North Adams American Legion and the Clarksburg VFW. He leaves two sisters, Alice R. Filiault, with whom he made his home, and Anna M. Mariani of North Adams; a niece, Jeanne Dickie of Pownal, Vt.; four nephews, Thomas Mulvaney of North Adams, John "Jack" Filiault and his wife, Carol, of Williamstown, David Mariani of North Adams and Michael Mariani and his wife, Lisa, of North Adams; six grandnieces and -nephews; 10 great-grandnieces and -nephews, two great-great-grandnieces and his former wife, Isabelle Henry of Bennington, Vt. He was predeceased his brothers James, David and Edward Mulvaney. FUNERAL NOTICE â€' A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, Sept. 28, at 11 at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church in North Adams. Burial with military honors will follow in Clarksburg Cemetery. Calling hours will be Monday from 9 until 10:30 a.m. at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams. Memorial donations are suggested for the Clarksburg Senior Center or to Village Ambulance through the funeral home.
