Josephine A. Crowley, 96
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Josephine Ann Crowley, 96, of 321 North St. died Sunday, Sept. 6, 2009, at Sweet Brook Care Centers.
Born in Williamstown on Feb. 16, 1913, daughter of Jeremiah and Ellen O'Connell Crowley, she attended local schools and graduated from the former Williamstown High School in 1929 and from the former North Adams Normal School, now Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, in 1931. She received a bachelor of science in education from Boston University in 1938 and her master's degree in education from the University of Hartford in Connecticut in 1958.
Miss Crowley taught for many years in the former Broad Brook School until her retirement in 1976.
She was a communicant of St. Patrick's Church and a member of its Ladies' Guild. She was a member of the Berkshire County Teachers Association, Massachusetts Teachers Association, Retired Educators Association of Massachusetts and the National Education Association.
The last of her immediate family, she leaves a nephew, Gerald Francis Crowley of Falmouth, and grandnephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by three siblings. Her sister, Margaret Crowley, with whom she made her home, died Jan. 31, 1988; her brother Navy Lt. Francis Jerome Crowley was killed aboard the aircraft carrier USS Franklin in the South Pacific during World War II and her brother Cornelius Joseph Crowley died May 10, 1985.
FUNERAL NOTICE — A graveside service for Miss Crowley will take place at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours.
