Mary T. Como, 79

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Mary Terese "Terry" Como, 79, of Greenwood, S.C., formerly of Williamstown, died Sunday, July 19, 2009, at HospiceCare of the Piedmont in Greenwood after suffering complications from a stroke. Born in Rochester, N.Y, in 1930, daughter of T.F. Slater and of Marcella Slater Ikeler, she graduated from the former Williamstown High School in 1948 and from Larson Junior College in New Haven, Conn., in 1950. A homemaker, Mrs. Como was a Marine Corps wife, raising her six children at various bases across the United States, including in California, Massachusetts, Oklahoma, North Carolina, Virginia and South Carolina. She and her husband, retired Marine Lt. Col. Joseph Allen Como, retired to Greenwood. She was a communicant of Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Greenwood. She enjoyed family get-togethers, relaxing with her cats, braiding wool rugs, refinishing and caning antique chairs, gardening, watching purple martin nest in her back yard and boating parties with her neighbors on the lake. Mrs. Como's love and memory lives forever in the hearts and minds of her family. She and her husband, a Williamstown native who graduated from Williamstown High in 1947 and Williams College in 1951, were married Feb. 10, 1953, in the chapel at the Marine Corps Air Station in Quantico, Va. Besides her husband, she leaves three sons, Joseph A. Como Jr. of Stuart, Fla., Thomas G. Como of Wake Forest, N.C., and Anthony S. Como of Hampton, Va.; three daughters, Lisa Como Paulus of Springfield, Va., Catherine Como-Lambeth of Woodstock, Ga., and Carol L. Young of San Antonio; a sister, Suzanne Miller of Mountville, S.C., and seven grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE — A Funeral Mass for Mrs. Como will be celebrated Saturday, July 25, at 11 at Sts. Patrick & Raphael's Parish at 54 Southworth St., Williamstown. Burial will follow at the family plot in Eastlawn Cemetery in Williamstown. Calling hours will be Friday, July 24, from 4 to 7 at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Humane Society of Greenwood, P.O. Box 242, Greenwood, SC 29648.
