R. Joel Librizzi, 74

PITTSFIELD, Mass. â€' Raymond Joel Librizzi, 74, of 104 Appleton Ave. died Monday, June 15, 2009, at home, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Pittsfield on March 25, 1935, son of Raymond J. and Helen Scagliari Librizzi, he attended Pittsfield schools and graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1953. He also attended Ohio State University in Columbus. An Army veteran, he served from 1955 to 1959 and was stationed in Germany. Mr. Librizzi, known as Joel, was employed by The Berkshire Eagle for 43 years a news and features photographer. He had been a communicant of the former Notre Dame Church. He was a member of the National Press Photographers Associaton and the Boys and Girls Club of Pittsfield, and a former member of the Berkshire Mountain Search & Rescue Team and the Berkshire County Trails Advisory Council. A member of the National Speleological Society, he was a founder of the West Side Mountain Cave Club for adopted and foster children in Pittsfield. He enjoyed camping, hiking, mountain climbing, spelunking and skiing. He leaves two sons, Marcus A. Librizzi of Machiasport, Maine, and David Librizzi of Williamstown; a daughter, Tara R. Librizzi and her husband, Randy M. Morin, of Machias, Maine; three stepsons, John Zarvis, Steven Zarvis and Paul Zarvis; a brother, Richard C. Librizzi of New York City and Pittsfield; a sister, Carla Critelli of Pittsfield; three grandchildren, Jacob, Tyler and Ali Librizzi; two stepgrandchildren, Havah Zarvis and James Martin, and a niece and two nephews. FUNERAL NOTICE â€' Services for Mr. Librizzi will be held Friday, June 19, at 10 a.m. from Flynn & Dagnoli-Bencivenga Funeral Home, 5 Elm St., Pittsfield, MA 01201. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 at Sacred Heart Church by Msgr. Leo A. Leclerc, VG. Burial will take place at St. Ann's Cemetery in Lenox at the convenience of the family.
