John H. Quinn, 88

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. â€' John H. "Jack" Quinn, 88, of 146 Berkshire Drive and Sarasota, Fla., died at home in Williamstown, on Thursday, June 4, 2009. Born in Williamstown on Dec. 28, 1920, son of Patrick J. and Mary Bridgman Quinn, he graduated from Williamstown schools and the New England Institute of Anatomy in Boston. An Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, he enlisted in 1942. He flew with the 8th Air Force out of England and was shot down three times behind enemy lines. He took part in the Battle of the Bulge and was awarded the Purple Heart for his service. Mr. Quinn established John H. Quinn Funeral Home on Southworth Street in 1949 and operated it until his retirement in 1982, when he sold the land and buildings to Williams College. He was also a quality inspector in the quality control department of the former General Cable Corp. for 15 years. He was elected town clerk in 1950 and served nine years until his resignation. He was a member of St. Patrick's Church, Taconic Golf Course and Williams College Faculty Club and a former member of the Rotary and Lions clubs. He leaves his wife, the former Lois Boland, whom he married on Jan. 3, 1948; three sons, Patrick J. Quinn of San Francisco and Williamstown, John B. Quinn of Bronxville, N.Y., and Daniel L. of Weston; two daughters, Susan Haffty of Shrewsbury and Narragansett, R.I., and Marion Jowett of Williamstown, six grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. FUNERAL NOTICE â€' A Funeral Mass for Mr. Quinn will be celebrated at Sts. Patrick and Raphael's Church on Tuesday, June 9, at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in Westlawn Cemetery in Williamstown. The family will greet friends and family at a reception at the Williams Inn immediately after the cemetery. Calling hours at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams will be Monday from 5 to 7. Those wishing to remember Mr. Quinn in a special way may make donations to the VNA & Hospice of Northern Berkshire, the agency that was started by his mother in 1911.

I am so sorry to hear about Uncle Jack's passing. I have great memories of spending time with him in Williamstown especially over the Labor Day weekends. I know that he will be missed as he touched so many lives in his special way. My thoughts, love and prayers are with you all.
