Alice Warren, 99

SHEFFIELD, Mass. — Alice Warren, 99, of Maple Avenue died Friday, May 15, 2009, at Timberlyn Heights Nursing Center in Great Barrington. Born in Sheffield on March 5, 1910, daughter of Carroll and Dora Mead, she graduated from the former Sheffield High School in 1928. Mrs. Warren grew up in the family business, Orchard Shade Boarding House, which opened in 1884. She continued to operate the boarding house until it was sold in 1986. She was a member of Christ Church Episcopal and served on its Altar Guild. She was also active in Sheffield Grange 224, and was a world traveler and an accomplished musician and artist. Her husband, J. Wesley Warren, whom she married on May 1, 1935, died on April 11, 1984. She leaves her son, John Wesley "Jack" Warren and his wife, Betty, of Sheffield; her daughter, Dora Guerra and her husband, John, of Cleveland, Texas; eight grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE — Services for Mrs. Warren will be private and there will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires through Finnerty & Stevens Funeral Home, 426 Main Street, Great Barrington, MA 01230.
