Margaret M. T. Lanoue, 84

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Margaret Marie Theresa Lanoue, 84, of 66 East Quincy St. died Thursday, April 30, 2009, at home. Born in North Adams on Aug. 21, 1925, daughter of Lawrence and Beatrice Girard, she attended the former Notre Dame School and Drury High School. Mrs. Lanoue was employed by North Adams Regional Hospital in its cafeteria until retiring at age 65. After her retirement, she volunteered at the hospital gift shop. She was a communicant of the former Notre Dame du Sacre Coeur Parish, where she sang in the choir, served as a Eucharistic minister to shut-ins and led the bingo kitchen committee. Mrs. Lanoue was very dedicated to her church, attending Mass daily, praying the rosary and living a reflective life. She was an active member of many clubs and organizations, including more than 50 years as a member of the Cercle Francais. She always looked forward to the annual Mother's Day dinner, when she could show off at least one of her daughters to fellow members. She also was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, dedicating her time and baking skills to monthly visits for the veterans at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Leeds. Her children were proud of their Mom, and the life she shared with them and everyone around her: We will celebrate her life and continue her legacy through our hearts, memories and lives. Her husband, Russell Lanoue, died July 16, 1965. She leaves five daughters, Verne and Gerald Stout of Dunedin, Fla., Denise and David Morin of the town of Florida; Marianne Lanoue of Bedford, Texas, Constance and Jon Van Hoogenstyn of Cape Elizabeth, Maine, and Elyse Lanoue and Patrick Shroyer of Pownal, Vt.; four sons, Vincent and Wendy Lanoue of Scituate, Bernard Lanoue of Wilmington, Del., the Rev. Dr. Marc Lanoue of Forest Hill, Md., and John and Debbie Lanoue of Westfield; her grandchildren Kimberly Morin, Meredith and Christopher Lanoue, Russell MacAlpine, John Lanoue Jr., Marie Lanoue, Anna Lanoue and Emma Shroyer; a sister-in-law, Jean Girard of South Carolina, and many grandnieces and grandnephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Lawrence Girard. FUNERAL NOTICE — A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Monday, May 4, at 9 a.m. from St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church, Marshall Street, North Adams. Calling hours will be held Sunday, May 3, from 5 to 8 at Auge-San Soucie-Simmons Funeral Home, 46 North Church St., North Adams. Memorial donations may be made to Catholic Charities in care of the funeral home.

Margaret will be missed. She was so generous even as a very young girl. I grew up in the same neighborhood and she taught me to ride a bike and let me borrow hers often . Larry and I were classmates. She and my sister Irene were good friends. We were all so lucky to grow up inthat neighborhood and attend Notre Dame du Sacré Couer school. I will never forget her .

Marianne and I have been friends since 5th grade at Notre Dame and I always remember soooo much
activity at the Lanoue household. I know your mom
was proud of all of you, and will continue to watch over you. My prayers and thoughts are with you all at this time.

I am the youngest son of Bernard Lamoureux, Margaret's cousin. Growing up we heard many stories of my Dad's youth living with his great cousins. On a visit with three other siblings to North Adams in summer 2000 to see where my Dad was raised, Margaret welcomed us into her home and shared many stories of my Dad and Grandfather we had never known. Her kindness and hospitality will never be forgotten. May God bless her and her family during this trying time.

Aunt Margaret will be missed by many, with all I have read of her involvement in helping others. Staying active in the community is very impressive in these times. People like Aunt Margaret & my Dad were special, by helping & staying involved for others. We can only learn from them & pass it on to our kids, to do the same. God Bless you all yours, cousin Bill.
