Mildred D. Cleary, 89

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Mildred Doris Cleary, 89, of 163 Eagle St. died Tuesday, March 31, 2009, at Williamstown Commons. Born in North Adams on March 21, 1920, daughter of Louis Foote and Maude Mildred Strong Foote-Lebert, she graduated from Drury High School in 1938. Mrs. Cleary was self-employed as a seamstress, sewing cheerleader uniforms for both the former St. Joseph's High School and Drury High School. She was employed at the Sprague Electric Co. for 21 years, retiring in 1982. She was a longtime communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church and was a member of the Le Cercle Francais Club. Her husband, James Francis Cleary, whom she married Feb. 10, 1942, died Jan. 6, 1992. She leaves a sister, Arline Ballou of North Adams; a brother, Euclid "Mike" Lebert Jr. of Anderson, S.C.; and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She was predeceased by her son, Bruce Alan Cleary, on Aug. 4, 1998; her brother Norman Foote on May 21, 1993, and her sister Joan Wagenknecht. FUNERAL NOTICE — Funeral services will take place Monday, April 6, at 11 from Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., North Adams. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. Memorial donations are suggested for the charity of the donor's choice through the funeral home.

My Aunt Millie was a wonderful woman. She was always quick with a joke and I never saw her sad. As with so many residents of this area, the over priced nursing homes left her pennyless. The city took her home and what was once a pretty happy home is now just a delapidated memory.
