Paul H. Netherwood Sr., 96
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Paul Hazlet Netherwood Sr., 96, of Sweetwood Retirement Community died Thursday, Feb. 26, 2009, at Sweet Brook Care Centers.
Born in North Adams on Sept. 8, 1912, son of William F. and Stella Mae Delano Natherwood, he attended schools there and graduated from Drury High School with the class of 1929. He received the Arnold Print Works Scholarship to Massachusetts Institute of Technology, from which he graduated in 1933. He also earned his master's degree in chemical engineering from MIT in 1934.
Mr. Netherwood began his career at the former Arnold Print Works until joining the former Sprague Electric Co., where he worked for many years until his retirement in 1974. While at Sprague, he received numerous patents for his work with capacitors.
He was a member of First Congregational Church. He enjoyed golf, playing bridge and reading. He especially enjoyed the Panthers morning coffee group at the Williams Faculty Club and the Sweetwood coffee hour.
His wife, the former Florence Mary Gazzaniga, whom he married on April 22, 1937, died on Dec. 29, 2005.
He leaves a son, Paul H. Netherwood Jr. and his wife, Joan, of Joppa, Md.; two daughters, Judith Wright and her husband, Lawrence, of Williamstown and Jean Seitz and her husband, Craig, of Athens, Ohio; a sister, Eleanor Van Vleck of North Adams; four grandchildren, Jennifer Wright of Fremont, Calif., Eric Wright of Conway, S.C., David Seitz of Helena, Ala., and Jonathan Seitz of Hackettstown, N.J.; three great-grandchildren, Holland Seitz, Hope Seitz and Samuel Paul Seitz, and nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his siblings Doris Galipeau and John Netherwood
FUNERAL NOTICE — A memorial service to celebrate the life of Mr. Netherwood will be held Saturday, Feb. 28, at 2 at Sweetwood Continuing Care Community, 1611 Cold Spring Road, Williamstown. A reception will follow.
