Norman R. Boyer, 77

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — Norman R. Boyer, 77, of North Plain Road, Housatonic, died Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2009, at home. Born in North Adams on Jan. 5, 1932, son of Alfred J. "Bob" and Lillian Foy Boyer, he graduated from Drury High School and the former North Adams State Teachers College, now Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts. A dedicated educator, Mr. Boyer was a principal and teacher in the Berkshire Hills Regional School District. Following his retirement in 1970, he worked with his son, Robert Boyer, at Southern Berkshire Power Equipment. He and his wife, the former Nancy Hopkins, were married in 1957 and moved to Great Barrington, where they raised their five children. Besides his wife and son Robert and his wife, Donna, of Great Barrington, he leaves another son, William Boyer and his wife, Janet, of Great Barrington; three daughters, Mary Turner and her husband, Christopher, of Brunswick, Maine, Catherine McDonald of Waterford, Conn., and Anne Moriarty and her husband, Michael, of Great Barrington; his sister, Lorraine Gannon of North Adams; his former son-in-law, Peter McDonald of Waterford; and 14 grandchildren, Kate and Anna Turner, Kristen, Erin and Tyler McDonald, Aimee, Joel and Meg Boyer, Hannah, Rachel and Matthew Moriarty and Alexander, Hope and Sarah Boyer. He was predeceased by his sister Priscilla "Peggy" Cook. FUNERAL NOTICE — A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Mr. Boyer will be celebrated on Saturday, Feb. 7, at 10 in St. Peter's Church in Great Barrington by the Rev. William Murphy. The family will receive friends prior to the funeral from 8:30 to 9:30 at Finnerty & Stevens Funeral Home in Great Barrington. Burial will follow the Mass at St. Peter's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to St. Peter's Church or Shriners' Children's Hospital in care of funeral home, 426 Main St., Great Barrington, MA 01230.
