Ruth P. Meaney, 93

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Ruth Patricia Meaney, 93, of 164 Corinth St. died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2009, at home. Born in Williamstown on Feb. 3, 1915, daughter of Patrick James and Mary Ellen Bridgman Quinn, she graduated from the former Williamstown High School in 1932. She also graduated from Elms College in 1936 and completed her master's degree in education from the former North Adams State College. Mrs. Meaney was a kindergarten teacher at the former Mark Hopkins School for many years, retiring in 1980. Before her marriage, she taught elementary school in Williamstown and then was a teacher at the Chalifoux Nursery School. She was a communicant of the former St. Francis of Assisi Church and was a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. She was a member of the St. Francis Rosary Sodality Bowling League, and a member of the Rhythm Belles Line Dancing Group. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her husband, Paul Francis Meaney Sr., whom she married on Aug. 16, 1941, died Dec. 15, 1989. She leaves four sons, Paul Francis Meaney Jr. of North Adams, James Anthony Meaney of Lenox, and Gregory Richard Meaney and John Patrick Meaney, both of North Adams; two daughters, Mary Ellen Perreault of Adams and Anne Patricia Carruth of Nashua, N.H.; a brother, John H. Quinn and his wife, Lois Boland Quinn, of Williamstown and Sarasota, Fla.; 17 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews A brother, John Bernard Quinn, is deceased. FUNERAL NOTICE — The funeral for Mrs. Meaney will be Saturday, Jan. 31, at 9:30 from Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30 at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Friday from 4 to 7. Memorial contributions may be made to VNA and Hospice of Northern Berkshire in care of the funeral home.

Mary Ellen and family, We are so sorry to hear of your mother's passing. We both remember how kind she was to attend Jim's mother's funeral and help to arrange for the catholic Daughters to recognize Mom.
