William T. Gillooly, 89

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. â€' William Thomas Gillooly, 89, of Wood Street died Friday, Jan. 9, 2009, at Sweet Brook Care Centers in Williamstown. Born in Williamstown on Oct. 2, 1919, son of Thomas E. and Katherine A. Dougherty Gillooly, he graduated from the Williamstown High School with the class of 1937. He also attended St. Anselm's College in Manchester, N.H. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Mr. Gillooly was employed by the U.S. Postal Service in Williamstown for 29 years, retiring in 1980. He was a trustee and deacon of Blackinton Union Church, and had also served as chairman of the board of trustees. He was a member, past president and treasurer of the Friendship Club in Williamstown. He was a life member of American Legion Post 152 in Williamstown and a past member of the North Adams Historical Society. He enjoyed reading and supported the North Adams Public Library. He was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots. His first wife, the former Virginia Haviland, died in 1977. Hi wife, the former Charlotte Atwood Rooney, died in 2001. He leaves two sons, Thomas Edward Gillooly and his wife, Mary Ann, of Windsor and William Alan Gillooly and his wife, Maryanne, of Sheffield; his companion, Pamela Beverly, with whom he made his home; a brother, Neil Gillooly of Blairsville, Ga.; two stepchildren, Barbara Paquette of Wakefield, R.I., and Michael Rooney of Laredo, Texas; four grandchildren, Jonah Gillooly of Casa Grande, Ariz., Tucker Gillooly of Sheffield, Alana Gillooly of New Zealand and Peter Gillooly of Windsor, five stepgrandchildren and nieces and nephews. A sister, Anna Kinney, is deceased. FUNERAL NOTICE â€' The funeral for Mr. Gillooly will be conducted Monday, Jan. 12, at 11 from Blackinton Union Church by the Rev. Eugene Kemp, pastor. Burial will follow in Southlawn Cemetery in Williamstown. Calling hours at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams, will be Sunday, Jan. 11, from 4 to 7. Memorial contributions may be made to the Blackinton Union Church in care of the funeral home.
