Helen L. Macy, 88
SHEFFIELD, Mass. — Helen Louise Macy, 88, of South Main Street died Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2009, at Great Barrington Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, where she had been a resident since 2005.
Born on March 3, 1920, in Pawtucket, R.I., daughter of William S. and Maude Hemingway Taylor, she moved to Sheffield in 1936 and graduated from the former Sheffield High School in 1938 and the former Bishop Memorial School of Nursing in Pittsfield in 1941.
A registered nurse, Mrs. Macy worked at Fairview Hospital in Great Barrington.
She was a member of Christ Church Episcopal and of its Women's Guild. She was also a member of the Retired Nurses of Southern Berkshire County. While her children were in school, she worked with the PTA.
Her husband, Robert Macy, whom she married on June 27, 1942, in Valdosta, Ga., died in April 1982.
She leaves her son, Thomas D. Macy and his wife, Mary Ellen, of Sheffield; her daughter, Julianne Ruske and her husband, Robin, of Bluffton, S.C.; She also leaves a sister, Elizabeth Lehman of Madison, Wisc.; three grandchildren, Robert S. Macy of Atlanta, Sarah Macy of Sheffield and Michael Macy of Dalton; her sister-in-law Ann Macy Goodrich, her brother-in-law Marshall Thornton, and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by another son, Robert Macy in August 2008, and her sisters Martha Pratt, Mary Clark and Dorothy Thornton.
FUNERAL NOTICE — Funeral services for Mrs. Macy will be held on Monday, Jan. 12, at 11 from Christ Church in Sheffield. Burial will follow in Sheffield Center Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, Jan. 11, from 4 to 7 at Finnerty & Stevens Funeral Home in Great Barrington.
