Joseph L. Crowley, 82

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Joseph Leon Crowley, 82, formerly of 363 River St. and longtime resident of Williamstown Commons, died Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2008, at North Adams Regional Hospital. Born in North Adams on Sept. 18, 1926, son of Joseph and Yvonne Roy Crowley, he attended schools in North Adams and Williamstown and graduated from the former Williamstown High School with the class of 1946. Mr. Crowley had been employed at the former Purina Grain Co. and as a janitor for the Dowling Block. He also assisted his father in the operations of the family business, the Riverside Sharp Shop. He was an active member of the local Boy Scouts for 28 years and was scoutmaster for Troops 42 and 35. He was a lifelong communicant of the former St. Francis' Church. While a resident of Williamstown Commons, he served on the residents council and was known as the bookie. He was an avid reader and wrote 50 short stories. He leaves his sister, Yvonne Hubbard of Ventura, Calif., and nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. He was predeceased by another sister, Bernadette O'Neill and three brothers, Charles, Paul and Francis Crowley. FUNERAL NOTICE — A Liturgy of Christian Burial will take in the springtime. There will be no calling hours. Memorial donations are suggested for Williamstown Commons Activities fund or the Boy Scouts of America through Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St. North Adams, MA 01247.
