Marion E. Emerson, 93

CHESHIRE, Mass. — Marion Ethel Emerson, 93, of Sweet Brook Care Centers in Williamstown, formerly of 34 Fisk St., died Monday evening, Dec. 22, 2008, at North Adams Regional Hospital. Born in Otis on Jan. 11, 1915, daughter of Miles F. and Ethel Butler Lewis, she was educated in Otis and Pittsfield schools, graduating in 1932 from Pittsfield High School. She also was a graduate of the former St. Luke's School of Nursing in Pittsfield and trained at New York Foundling Hospital. A registered nurse, Mrs. Emerson was employed at the former C.T. Plunkett Hospital in Adams, as the school nurse at Cheshire School and in the critical care nursery at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield, from which she retired. She was a member of United Methodist Church and was actively involved in its affairs, including secretary of its board and Sunday school and secretary and trustee of its Women's Social Club. She also had worshiped at St. Mary of the Assumption Church and at 1st Baptist Church. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, the National Grange, the Henry W. Bishop Alumni Association and the Northern Berkshire Graduate Nurses Association. A volunteer for Elder Services of Berkshire County, she also was a member of the Cheshire and Savoy senior centers, the Salvation Army Service Unit and of the American Legion Ladies' Auxiliary. Her husband, Roy Howard Emerson, whom she married April 21, 1940, in South Congregational Church in Pittsfield, died Aug. 17, 1979. She leaves a son, Robert A. Emerson and his wife, Shirley, of Cheshire; two daughters, Marilyn L. Martin and her husband, Robert, of Cheshire, and Elaine F. Daniels and her husband, John, of Cheshire; six grandchildren, Robert Martin Jr., Terry Emerson, Robbin Emerson, Holly Emerson, Jackie Fortier and John Daniels Jr.; six great-grandchildren, Matheau Hollis, Sarah Mahoney, Kayla Martin, Marina Fortier, Christine Fortier and Henry Daniels; three great-great-grandchildren, Nathan, Kahlin and Jacob Mahoney; a sister-in-law, Bernice Madigan of Cheshire, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, a sister and a granddaughter, Kimmie Hollis. FUNERAL NOTICE — Services for Mrs. Emerson will be Tuesday, Dec. 30, at 10 a.m. at United Methodist Church of Cheshire. Burial will follow in Maple Street Cemetery in Adams. Calling hours will be Monday, Dec. 29, from 4 to 7 p.m., at Dery-Cheshire Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mrs. Emerson may be made to the Cheshire Fire Department, United Methodist Church of Cheshire, St. Mary of the Assumption Church, or 1st Baptist Church, all in care of the funeral home, P.O.
