Azalia Mary Hinkley

Azalia Mary Hinkley, 87, formerly of Sugar Hill, died yesterday morning at Craneville Place of Dalton, where she had resided since June 2004. She was a former resident of Brighton Avenue in Pittsfield. Born in Pittsfield on July 10, 1918, daughter of Frank H. and Henrietta Duprey Beitzel, she was a 1936 graduate of Pittsfield High School and attended the former Berkshire Business College. A self-employed seamstress for many years, Mrs. Hinkley had also worked for the former Stevens Drapery World. She retired in 1978. She was a communicant of St. Agnes' Church and a member of the Berkshire Pioneer Square Dance Club and the Berkshire Roundaliers, where she taught dancing. She enjoyed flower gardening, camping and doing crafts. Her husband, Raymond R. Hinkley, whom she married May 10, 1941, at the former Notre Dame Church, died June 30, 2003. She leaves a son, Ronald F. Hinkley of DeBary, Fla.; a daughter, Brenda L. Fancher of Hinsdale; a brother, Walter Beitzel of Pittsfield; a sister, Frances Kelly of Pittsfield; four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Azalia Mary Hinkley, who died Monday, Oct. 24, will be Wednesday, Oct. 26, at 8:15 from DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9 at St. Agnes' Church celebrated by the Rev. Christopher A. Malatesta, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Patrick's Cemetery in Hinsdale. Calling hours will be today, Tuesday, from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Arthritis Foundation in care of the funeral home, 890 East Main St., Dalton. Mrs. Hinkley leaves four grandchildren, Mark, Michelle, Joshua and Elizabeth, and four great-grandchildren, Jordan, Lauren, Emily and Damion. She was predeceased by a brother, Harold Beitzel of Cheshire. She also enjoyed spending time in Delaware.
