Theresa Dix, 98
CLARKSBURG, Mass. — Theresa Leonie Antoinette (Rondeau) Dix surrounded by family at her home in Clarksburg left us on Saturday, January 25, 2025. Theresa was born on June 9, 1926 at home on Protection Ave, North Adams to the late Oliver and Leonie (Rougeau) Rondeau.
She was the 7th child in a family of 14. At the age of 3 she moved with her family to Stamford, Vermont. She spoke French until she started school and was the only girl in her graduating class of 5. At graduation she was recognized as the top student. She went to work after graduating 8th grade as a housekeeper for both the Dunn Family of Stamford and the Melcher Family of North Adams until the age of 16 when she started at Sprague Electric.
On September 6, 1943 she married the love of her life John E Dix ~ they were the 1st couple to be married at St John Bosco in Stamford. She and John moved to Clarksburg March 27, 1944 where they raised 7 children. Theresa was a homemaker and provided daycare for children until 1967 when she went to work at Roberts Company as the seamstress until 1987. She graduated from tailoring class in 1965. She was a communicant of St Francis of Assisi Church and a Confraternity of Christian Doctrine teacher 1986 to 2005. She was a hospice volunteer; she was in the first class held for volunteers accompanied by her daughter, Cyndi and friend Sue Galli. She renewed her vows with John in September of 1993 for their 50th anniversary in St Francis of Assisi. In 1995 she was the recipient of the Pius Award. A volunteer at North Adams Regional Hospital she earned her 1000 hour pin in 2006.
In her time here, she was a member of St Francis Rosary Society, Briggsville Women’s Club, Hairpin Turners, Den mother, Girl Scout leader, 4H Club, Stamford Seniors and Catholic Daughter. She was a member of the Post #996 VFW Auxiliary of North Adams.
Her love for children was her passion ~ her family was her world. She is predeceased by her late husband John on December 3, 1995; sons Michael June 25, 1985, Kenneth September 28, 1998 and Ernest December 8, 2022; and a grandson Donald January 3, 2001. Her brothers Oliver, Joseph, Ernest, Felix, Wilfred, Thomas, Roger and Francis "Pete" Rondeau; sisters Olive Rondeau, Doris Roberts, Cecile Tatro Pratt and Rachel Tatro.
She is survived by sons John E (Marla) Dix of Clarksburg and Donald (Cindy) Dix of Pownal, Vermont; Daughters Geraldine "Gerry" (David) Hyde of Williamstown and Cynthia "Cyndi" Candiloro of Stamford; Daughters in law, Barbara "Bobbi", Kathy and Lisa Dix and her brother Daniel (Pat) Rondeau of Stamford; 21 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren and 19 great great grandchildren. Special thanks to Barbara and Kathy Dix, Mark Braman, Diane Oxton, Burdys Crawford and Charlene Alfaro for assisting the family in her care, she appreciated spending time with each and every one of you. Special thanks to Debbie, Natalie and Jacob from Hospice.
An avid walker, reader and Yahtzee player she will be remembered most for her outpouring of love, the knitted hooded sweaters, handsewn baby quilts, making first communion dresses, picnics, annual Christmas party and her sugar cookies. Every card signed with love is forever.
A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Theresa Dix will be celebrated Wednesday January 29, 2025 at 11:00 AM at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church. Burial will be in the spring in Clarksburg Cemetery. Calling hours at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS WEST CHAPELS, 521 West Main St. North Adams, MA are Tuesday from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
