Carlyle (Kie) Chesbro Sr. & Loretta Pearl Chesbro

CLARKSBURG, Mass. — Carlyle (Kie) Chesbro Sr. passed away on October 23, 2024, after his wife Loretta Pearl (Maxymillian) Chesbro passed on February 9, 2024.

Kie and Loretta's story began when they met during their teenage years, as Loretta would later say "I saw this handsome man with my brother and I just loved him." Kie also agreed it was love at first sight. They dated for a few years and later married on September 2, 1955.

Carlyle (Kie) Chesbro Sr. was born on May 6, 1934 to Isabel and Harry (Hap) Chesbro, he was one of five children. In May of 1953, Kie joined the Marines at the end of the Korean War, and served as a cook.  Later on he joined the Army during the Vietnam War, and upon returning home became a longstanding member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Clarksburg.  After his discharge from the Army, Kie was employed by The Strong Hewitt Company, Hunter Machine, Constable for the Town of Clarksburg, and lastly R.I. Baker Company where he was part owner.

Kie was proud to live in Clarksburg, he volunteered much of his time to various town organizations. He was a longtime member of the Clarksburg Volunteer Fire Company for 55 years, and he served as Chief from 1981-1984.  Kie spent a great deal of time with his best friend, and cohort in crime, Frank (Loretta's brother). They would spend much of their time at the camp they built, "The Crooked Board Ranch" in Stamford; many weekends were also spent having cookouts with friends and family. Additionally, Kie cherished his garage meetings with his close friends.

Loretta Pearl (Maxymillian) Chesbro was born on April 1, 1937 to Cecilia and Frances Maxymillian of Adams MA, she was one of three children.  Loretta had a great love of flowers and gardening, every day in the spring and summer she would spend many hours in her flower garden and working in the yard. Loretta really enjoyed going to tag sales with her sister-in-law, Tookie. She also took pleasure in setting up at Flea Markets to resell what she'd purchased the days before. Loretta and Tookie teamed up to open a second-hand store in Williamstown called "Second Hand Rose."  Loretta loved collecting teapots, glassware, porcelain lady's heads and hands, and much more. She was very proud of her large collection of buttons, she would show them to anybody who came to her home. She would use the buttons to make artwork that was even displayed at Mass MoCA. Loretta was an avid gamer, from the original NES to computer games in her later years, and would play with her children and grandchildren.

Loretta had a love of music, and would sing many of her favorite songs while working around the house. Kie and Loretta enjoyed many years of snowmobiling with family throughout Northern Berkshire and southern Vermont. They took delight in traveling to places like Japan, Germany, and most of the United States. After retirement, they spent their first year traveling the country by train and many winters in Florida. Loretta and Kie treasured time spent with family and friends.

Kie and Loretta shared sixty-eight wonderous years together, before Loretta fell ill and passed away on February 9, 2024.  Kie, broken-hearted and missing her, passed away on October 23, 2024. They leave behind three children: TinaMarie Fedeczko and her husband Dave; Carlyle (Chip) Chesbro Jr. and his wife Karen; and  Melissa McGovern; 8 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.

Loretta was predeceased by her sister, Julia (Maxymillian) Wolfrum and leaves behind her brother Frank Maxymillian.

Kie was predeceased by all four of his siblings: Harry P. Chesbro, Marie Sherman, Lois Horton, and Howard Chesbro.  Kie and Loretta touched the lives of many and forever will be missed.

Memorial donations for Kie or Loretta can be made to: Clarksburg Volunteer Fire Company or Clarksburg Veterans of Foreign Wars.

We’re so sorry to hear of Kie’s passing, he was such a great guy. We came to know Kie at Crane & Co, when he would come in when working at RI Baker. He always put himself out to say hi and chat, becoming friends with everyone. He was well respected by Crane Management and trusted, everyone always spoke highly of him. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family.
