James F. McVeigh, 77

CHESHIRE, Mass. —  James Francis McVeigh, age 77, died of natural causes in his home on Nov. 7, 2024. He resided in Cheshire, MA, at 36 Hampshire Drive, where he had lived since retiring in 1988. Jim grew up in Flatbush, Brooklyn, and graduated from Manhattan College in 1968. He worked as an electrical engineer for General Electric for many years. In later years he worked for Lockheed Martin and General Dynamics.

Jim’s parents were James E. McVeigh and Sarah Reynolds McVeigh, both born in Ireland in 1907. His two siblings, who survive him, are Terry McVeigh of Tempe, AZ, and Daniel McVeigh of Adrian, MI. He has also left behind a number of cousins in the United States and other distant relatives in the Republic of Ireland.

Jim was a lifelong bachelor with no children. In retirement he was most involved with his local Catholic parish, and the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineering), for which he was Chairman of the Berkshire Section.

FUNERAL NOTICE: A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, Nov. 26, at 10 a.m., at St. Mary of the Assumption Parish Church in Cheshire, MA, celebrated Rev. Paul Norman. Burial will follow in Cheshire Cemetery. Dery Funeral Home has been entrusted with his arrangements.
