Nazeerah Sookey, 96

ADAMS, Mass. — Nazeerah (Ameen) Sookey, 96, of Adams, MA, died on Sunday, November 17, 2024, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born in North Adams on October 15, 1928, a daughter of Kassim and Margaret Ameen. Nazeerah married David I. Sookey on September 24, 1955. David predeceased her on May 3, 2004.

Nazeerah was employed at Woolworth’s in North Adams, AT&T Telephone Company, but most will remember her from the family business, Oasis Liquor Store in Adams.

Nazeerah deeply cherished her family, and her greatest joy in life was caring for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Those who knew her well understood that they were her most prized possession and her greatest accomplishment. Her love, devotion, and nurturing spirit were a constant source of strength and comfort to her loved ones. Her family was her heart and she found her deepest fulfillment in the role of mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was affectionately known as Auntie Nana and Sitti to both family and family friends.

Nazeerah is survived by her children David I Sookey, Jr. and wife Gail and Richard D. Sookey and his partner Rebecca Wellington. She is also survived by her by 8 grandchildren: Sami Sookey, Kasandra Zguta, David I Sookey, III (Kailey), Dino Sookey (Megan), Ramzy Sookey (Meghan), Richard Sookey II, Summer Sookey, and Sidney Sookey; and 5 great-grandchildren: Aiden, Zenner, Nazeerah, Cameron, and Ayla. She also leaves behind her siblings: Maneera Ameen, Christine Maher, Edward Ameen (Barbara), sister-in-law Mary Ameen and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, son Saleem D. Sookey, siblings Dorothy Ali, Julia Haddad, Jeanette Ameen, Richard Ameen, andf Fuad Ameen.

A private funeral service performed by Shiek Ahed Rajeh of Boston will be held on Thursday in the PACIOREK FUNERAL HOME, 13 Hoosac St. Adams. Private burial will follow in Southview Cemetery, North Adams. There are no calling hours. It is hard to say goodbye to Nazeerah. My regret is not having visited her more. She was a dear friend to me and was extremely good to me and my family! I shall miss her!

I spent many years doing her hair and sharing so many stories, we loved to talk about what she was cooking, I learned so much. She was the kindest women and loved her family so much. I can say I really will miss her, she was a big part of my life. Will always be in my heart.
