Shane T. McGovern, 59

ADAMS, Mass. — Shane T. McGovern, 59, of Adams, passed away on Tuesday, November 5, 2024 at his home following a brief illness. Born in Pittsfield on January 14, 1965, he was the son of the Late Terry and Marlene (Griffiths) McGovern. Shane attended local schools and was a graduate of Taconic High School.

Always wishing to have a son, Marlene had six daughters prior to Shane’s birth. Due to the Rubella outbreak of 64/65, Shane was born deaf. Like so many of the hearing impaired, Shane communicated through sign language as well as some very animated discussions with friends and family members. Often feigning a lack of understanding he would shrug his shoulders, with a totally innocent face exclaim “I don’t know” or “Not me!” and laugh with his very infectious laugh. Shane was an avid animal lover and had a particular fondness of German Shepherds. Shane found family very important and leaves behind many dear friends in the deaf community whom he loved as much as he loved his natural family.

Shane is survived by his daughter Myra of New Hampshire; three sisters, Cynthia Love of Savoy, Tracey Keller of Washington State and Kelly Pizzi and her partner William Molner of Pittsfield. He is also survived by two aunts, Mildred Willis of Pittsfield and Margaret Wirtes of Dalton. Shane also leaves many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by three sisters, Lisa Michalenko, Deanna Klein and Debra Pizzi.

Services for Shane will take place Thursday, November 21, 2024 at 6 PM from the TROTTIER PRINGLE FUNERAL HOME, 6 Summer St., Adams 01220, with the Rev. William R. Wilson officiating. Calling hours will be Thursday 4 PM until the time of the service, burial will be private at the convenience of the family.

Donations in his memory can be made to the Berkshire Humane Society, 214 Barker Road, Pittsfield, MA 01201, or in care of the funeral home.
