John Meczywor, 31

ADAMS, Mass. —  It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of SSG John David Meczywor who died at the age of 31 on Oct. 20, 2024.

John grew up in Adams playing youth sports and then developed a passion for skateboarding. John was a 2011 graduate of Hoosac Valley High School. In 2014 John enlisted in the US Army where he met his wife, Adriana.

Through his 10 years of service, John was stationed in Georgia, South Korea, Texas, California and Virginia.

At the time of his death, John was employed as a Staff Sergeant in the US Army working in logistics at Arlington National Cemetery.

John leaves his wife, Adriana Meczywor of Virginia, and their two beautiful girls, Camila and Sienna.

Besides his wife and children John leaves his father and stepmother, Michael & Lisa Meczywor, of Adams, his mother Pamela Meczywor of North Adams, his siblings Stanley Meczywor (Yesi) of Texas, Christopher O'Boyle (Colleen), Nicole O'Boyle, Michelle O'Boyle and Brian Langer of Adams.  He also leaves his niece & nephews, Lilianna, Alek, Adan, and Lucas.

We were extremely proud of the man John had become. After overcoming obstacles in his life, John became a very proud and dedicated soldier and leader who earned many awards. John was a great father who loved his children with all his heart, even so much that he and Camila would refer to each other as "best friends."

His love of the outdoors and animals was shared with his children fishing, camping and raising chickens.

His passing has left a hole in all of our hearts and he will be forever missed.

Services will be held on Nov. 21, 2024, at Pierce Funeral Home in Manassas, Va., from 11 a.m. to noon followed by a military burial at Arlington National Cemetery at 3 p.m.

John,

I am disheartened to hear of your passing. You were a supportive person through and through and probably one of the best soldiers to be in logistics. You were always someone that added value to our day in DIVARTY. Although we move on and lose touch sometimes, I do want the people who are survived by you to know that you are someone that made a difference in so many lives up to this point and though most of that may have remained unsaid or unthought, it is apparent when we reflect back on our interactions with one another. It reminds me to continue to appreciate those who leave a positive impact in our lives. Goodbye, John. Thankful to have known you. -Seth
