Virginia "Ginny" Sheldon, 78
Virginia (“Ginny”) Sheldon, 78, of Williamstown, MA passed away October 28, 2024 after a sudden illness. Born in Staten Island, NY she was the daughter of Curtis Callan and Frances (Neyland) Callan. Ginny attended Red Bank High in New Jersey, followed by Middlebury College where she met her husband, Tom. She finished her studies at SUNY Albany, including a Masters in Counseling, while lovingly raising their 3 sons.
Ginny’s lifelong passion was helping and connecting others. She was fiercely devoted and an unmatched sounding board to her family and friends. Ginny also helped countless children as a school counselor at Skano Elementary in Clifton Park and was recognized as the Volunteer of the Year for the North Adams Public Schools. She was an indefatigable volunteer, most notably serving as President and a long-time Board member of Williamstown’s Friends of Milne Public Library. She and a small army of devoted volunteers orchestrated thousands of book donations each year, helped launch and run Chapter Two Books, and generated critical funding.
Ginny loved hiking in Williamstown and traveling the world with Tom, going all-in on yoga, Pilates, and spinning classes, zigzagging around the country to visit friends and family, meticulously chronicling multiple families’ genealogy, attending the theater with decades-long friends, testing the shelf-life limits of leftovers, establishing order in the face of complexity, and finishing off that last little bit of ice cream left in the container. Never one to sit still (literally), we all benefited from her boundless energy and selflessness. She was a light, a pillar of support, and the connective tissue to so many— her parents, aunts and uncles, siblings, fellow volunteers, grandkids, co-workers, daughters-in-law, sons, nieces and nephews, cousins, and countless friends— the depth of which cannot be measured.
Ginny is survived by Husband: Tom Sheldon; Sons: Tom Jr. (Jeanine), Andy (Lisa), Matt (Lisa); Brother: Curtis Callan; Sister: Anne Cunningham (Scott); Aunt: Peggy Altmann (Eb); and 8 Grandchildren: Mackenzie, Zavi, Anya, Mia, Sylvia, Jack, Alexander, and Scottie.
A celebration of life will be held at a yet-to-be-named future date.
