Rosemarie Curran, 89

MOM

Rosemarie Curran, a resident of Stamford, VT for 66 years, peacefully passed away on September 24, 2024, with family by her side.

Rosemarie was born in Adams, Massachusetts in 1935, the youngest of six children. She graduated from Adams High School in 1953 and started work at the Sprague Electric Company. Rosemarie was an active member of the Publishing Staff, enjoying her role as Assistant Editor for the company newsletter, The Sprague Log.

She married her husband James Curran in September 1956 and raised ten children. At the age of 49 she returned to work as an insurance agent and customer representative for the following 15 years. She initially obtained her Series Seven insurance license while working for the John Hancock Insurance Company, finishing her career at Coakley, Pierpan and Dolan Insurance company.

Upon retirement she assisted the Stamford Elementary School as a teacher’s assistant for the Daycare program and then for the kindergarten class. She took great pride in watching the younger children begin their enjoyment of learning. Rosemarie was involved with Stamford Town government activities as a longtime Census volunteer, serving as Justice of the Peace and a member of the Finance Committee for years.

Rosemarie happily shared her enthusiasm for new adventures with her children and grandchildren when camping outdoors, hiking local mountains and exploring nearby lakes. She and her husband, Jim, traveled across the country visiting relatives from Massachusetts and Texas to California. In 1992 they traveled to Albertville, France to cheer on their son Jim, a member of the Olympic Cross Country Ski team.

Rosemarie was an avid gardener and had a beautiful collection of plants she nurtured inside her home and cultivated multiple outside gardens. She loved to read and followed the Red Sox and Patriots for years. She was a loving mother, always looking forward to family visits and enjoyed cooking for the large gatherings of family members. On every occasion she loved using her many cookbooks - always ready to try a new recipe. She was a big supporter of local farmer’s markets and loved to visit Vermont and Berkshire County orchards with her husband Jim. Her greatest enjoyment was spending time with her family and friends.

Rosemarie and James Curran were married for 66 years. He preceded her in death on May 29, 2022. Rosemarie is survived by nine of her ten children: Maureen, Jim, Kathryn, Patricia, John, Susan, Jennifer, Robert, and Neil. Their daughter Andrea died in 1983. She leaves 14 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. She is survived by her brother Thomas Tobin and sister Margaret Curtin. She was predeceased by her sister Marie, and brothers Patrick and John.

A Burial Service will take place at the Millard Cemetery in Stamford, VT on September 30, 2024, starting at 11:00 AM. There will be no calling hours. To add to the Book of Memories, please visit flynndagnolifuneralhomes.com.

Recollections & Sympathy For the Family

To the Curran family, Want to send our condolences for both your Mom and Dad, I had many conversations at the recylcing center with both. They were always respectful, humble people. Jim was the first person to tell me I was Croat as he worked with my Dad and younger brother for many years. Diane spent many hours at the School doing functions for the seniors and chatting with Rosemary about an array of subjects. They truly were the best role models of how people in town could get along. I miss Jim every time I go to the recyling center and now Rosemary. Hopefully I will catch Kathy who emulated her parents in every aspect.
Sincerely
David and Diane Saldo

To all the Currans all over the country - so very very sorry about the loss of your Mom (and Dad not so long ago). In Stamford, there were some places that were very inviting for everyone and Mrs. Curran made your home that way. It was always fun being there.. I seldom remember seeing her at Dutch Hill but I'm sure that she was awaiting everyone's return with a great supper. Your home and family was always an anchor of fun in the village.
