Kenneth M. Butler, 89
CHESHIRE, Mass. — Kenneth M. Butler of Cheshire and The Landing at Laurel Lake assisted living facility in Lee passed from this life on Aug. 9, 2024, at the Mount Greylock Extended Care Facility following a brief illness.
Ken was born in Pittsfield on Feb.18, 1935 son of the late John Kenneth Butler and the late Edith (Shaw) Butler. He grew up in Bernardston and following high school joined the U.S. Army. Ken was deployed to Germany where he was joined by his new wife, Janice (Thompson). They enjoyed as much of their time as possible touring Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.
After his discharge, Ken worked for Sprague Electric and ultimately General Electric where he became a supervisor for the electronics calibration lab until his retirement in 1990. Ken enjoyed fishing, camping, watching his favorite sports team, and creating wood projects in his shop. And he loved sharing his past times with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Ken leaves 2 sons, Paul Butler and his wife Mary of Adams and Brian Butler and his wife Ute of Hancock. He also leaves 5 grandchildren: Katherine, Jakob, Daniel, Jonathan, and Julia. Ken leaves a sister-in-law; Judith Flemister, his nieces Linda Arsenault (Truesdell) and her husband Tom, Ann Boulais (Truesdell) and her husband Anthony, Wendy Shairs (Flemister) and her husband John, and a nephew Jay Marsh and his wife Elsa as well as many extended family members and friends.
Ken is pre-deceased by wife Janice as well as his sister Nancy Truesdell and her husband Richard Truesdell.
A special thanks to the staff at Laurel Lake Assisted Living, where Ken resided for the past 2 years, for their dedicated compassion and care.
There will be a graveside service for Ken on Aug. 31, 2024, at 11am at West Northfield, MA. Cemetery. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations are appreciated to BCARC in Pittsfield CATA arts in Great Barrington or to United Cerebral Palsy in North Adams.
