Mary Cote, 72
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Mary Louise (Kiely) Cote, 72 of North Adams died on Saturday, July 27, 2024 at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Mary was born on May 7, 1952 in North Adams, a daughter of the late John Edward and Flora (Gaudette) Kiely. She attended schools in North Adams and was a 1970 graduate of St. Joseph’s High School. She then attended the former North Adams State College (MCLA) with a degree in education. Mary was in education for forty years, having taught Title 1 for twenty five years and followed by sixteen years as a second-grade teacher at Greylock Elementary School in North Adams. She volunteered for two years following retirement in the 3rd grade at CT Plunkett alongside with her dear friend Beth Bourdon.
Mary married Ernest George Cote on June 30, 1990 in St. Anthony’s Padua Church. Ernest predeceased her on March 20, 1993.
Mary was a communicant of St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church. She was a member of the Just for Fun Monday night bowling league. She was an avid Red Sox fan and just loved Tom Brady.
Mary is survived by her son Mattthew John Cote of Franklin, MA; her sister Patricia A. Gancarz of Adams and her brother William E. Kiely of Adams. Also, she leaves behind her step-daughter Jamie Cote and step-grandchildren Gustavo and Delisia Adorno, all of Pittsfield. Mary also leaves behind several nieces and nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews. She was predeceased by her brother-in-law Joseph Gancarz.
The family of Mary Cote wishes to thank the staff at the Phelps Cancer Center, especially Dr. Sean Mullaly and her caring nurse Brenda Ahern. The family also wished to extend their gratitude to Hospice Care of the Berkshires.
FUNERAL NOTICE: A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Mary Louise Cote will be celebrated Tuesday, August 6, 2024 at 11:00 AM at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery. Calling hours at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS WEST CHAPEL, 521 West Main St. North Adams, MA are Monday, August 5, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to the Phelps Cancer Center in Pittsfield or the St. Elizabeth of Hungary Building Fund in care of the funeral home.
