Donald C. Doucette, 92

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. —  Donald C. Doucette, 92, of Williamstown, MA passed away peacefully with his devoted wife Lenore by his side on July 23, 2024, from congestive heart failure.

Don was born on August 8, 1931 in Allston, Massachusetts to Joseph and Helen (Lally) Doucette.

Don graduated from St. Columbkille High School in 1950 on an athletic scholarship. He earned 3 varsity sports letters for football, basketball, and baseball. He graduated from Northeastern University (NU) with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (EE) in 1955 and earned his Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering from NU in 1965 after having 6 children. Don enjoyed his time playing basketball for NU's Huskies. A lasting testament was having his team photo enshrined in the cornerstone time capsule during the 1954 construction of the new Physical Education Center. Don also received the honor of membership in the prestigious Eta Kappa Nu International Honor Society.

Don spent over 30 years at New England Electric (NEE) after graduating from NU. There, he developed two innovative sub-station support technologies that were awarded registered patents. In 1986, he retired from NEE and went on to become the founding electrical engineer at PLM Electric Power Engineering, where he stayed until the end of his career.

Don married the love of his life Lenore in 1977. Together they lived between Massachusetts and Florida for the last 47 years. At their clubhouse at Veranda Springs, they were known as the original Ken and Barbie actively engaged in volunteer and social activities.

Don was a devout Catholic and volunteered for many years as the coach of the CYO basketball team for Our Lady of Presentation in Brighton MA.

Don was an avid New England sports fan, the Celtics being his favorite. He especially enjoyed watching the Celtics win the championship this year! In addition, Don enjoyed golf and solving puzzles of just about any sort. He enjoyed entertaining and inspiring others with his sleight-of-hand magic tricks, “Where’s the quarter?” He also enjoyed playing wiffle ball with friends and family at White Horse Beach and PLM.

Don is survived by his loving wife Lenore Doucette. He is also survived by his loving children, Cathleen Fountain and her husband Robert Fountain of Dalton, NH; Maureen Nix and her husband Stephan Nix of Gilford, NH; James Doucette and his wife Meg Doucette of Framingham, MA; Donald Doucette Jr and his wife Colleen Martin of Hopkinton, MA; William Doucette of Framingham, MA; his loving step-daughters Lee Ann Mullins and her husband Larry Mullins of North Adams, MA; and Laurien Brolin of Fort Worth, TX; his son-in-law Richard Villani of Hyannis, MA; and his cherished 21 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Don is also survived by his brother, Gerald Doucette of Needham, MA.

Don was preceded in death by his cherished daughter Pauline Villani of Hyannis, MA; his infant son John Paul Doucette of Brighton, MA; his grandson Paul Villani of Hyannis, MA; his brother Joseph Doucette of Scarborough, ME; and his sister Mary Duseau of Weymouth, MA.

FUNERAL NOTICE: A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Donald Doucette will be celebrated Friday August 2, 2024 at 11:00 AM at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church. Burial will follow in Southview cemetery.
