Edward Conroy,88

Edward N. Conroy, 88, of Williamstown, died at home on July 11th after a brief illness. Born in New York City on October 15, 1935, he was the son of the late Patrick J. and Elizabeth Hyland Conroy.

He attended St. Ignatius School, Fordham Prep and Fordham University School of Pharmacy in New York. He served in the United States Army after college and was stationed in Maine and Rhode Island.

A resident of Williamstown since 1960, he was an employee and then the owner/operator of the former Harts’ Pharmacists Inc. on Spring Street until his retirement in 2010. In retirement he continued to work occasionally at Little’s HSC Pharmacy in North Adams, and Lenox Village Integrative Pharmacy in Lenox. He loved the profession of pharmacy, helping people, and serving the community in which he lived and worked. One of his favorite sayings was “Every day is a good day when you are able to go to work,” and he had a lifetime of good days.

Throughout the years, Conroy was involved in numerous community groups, including the Lions Club, The Williamstown Board of Trade, The Williams College Quarterback Club, The Williams College Hoop Group, and St. Patrick’s Church. He served on various boards including the Board of Selectors, the Williamstown Community Chest, The Village Ambulance Service, North Adams Regional Hospital and Berkshire Bank and Trust. He was a longtime member of a men’s group which gathered at Tunnel City on Spring Street each weekday morning for coffee, fellowship and solving local and world problems.

He is survived by three children: Maribeth of Coral Gables, FL, Steve of Pittsfield, and Chris (Becky Logue-Conroy) of Warrington, PA ; four granddaughters: Shannon Conroy of San Antonio, TX, Molly Conroy of Boston, Meiris Logue-Conroy and Maeve Logue-Conroy, both of Warrington, PA. He is also survived by a brother, John F. Conroy (Tricia) of Dallas, PA as well as many nieces and nephews. His wife of 65 years, Anne Johnson Conroy, died in December 2023.

A Memorial Mass for Ed & Anne Conroy will take place at Saints Patrick and Raphael Parish Center on Saturday, September 14th at 1 p.m. A reception will follow in the Rectory.
