Sydney F. Hermon, 80

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. —  Sydney Frank Hermon, 80 of North Adams, MA died Monday July 8, 2024 at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield MA.

He was born in North Adams, MA on February 8, 1944, a son of Warren B. and Ellen (Van Steemburg) Hermon. A lifelong resident of North Adams, Sydney “Syd” attended local schools and earned two degrees from Berkshire Community College.

Sydney and his wife operated a home day care business for over 25 years. He had previously worked at Excelsior. Sydney excelled at gardening since childhood. Many in his neighborhood enjoyed his annual flower and vegetable gardens. Sydney and his family loved decorating for Christmas and have won local awards.

Sydney was proud to be a Republican and didn’t shy away from a political discussion. He was a great local and genealogical historian. Sydney religiously followed the weather, enjoyed photography, and often listened to music-especially country and bluegrass. He highly valued time spent with family. Sydney loved to travel and visited almost all of the US states and provinces in Canada .

His wife, Barbara Elaine (Jillson) Hermon died on June 6, 2003. They were married on February 28, 1975. Survivors include one daughter, Heather Lynn Jangrow (Kristopher Jangrow) of Canonsburg, PA and his grand dog Moxie. He was predeceased by his son, Todd Hermon in 1987 and his brother William Hermon in 1987.

FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral for Sydney Hermon will be Monday July 15, 2024 at 2:00 PM at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS WEST CHAPELS, 521 West Main St. North Adams, MA. Burial will follow in Southview cemetery. A calling hour will be held Monday afternoon from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to No Paws Left Behind, 59 Hodges Cross Road, North Adams MA 01247 or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
