Margaret 'Maggie' Furlon,77

FLORIDA, Mass. — Margaret "Maggie" Louise Furlon, 77, of the town of Florida, died Tuesday, June 25, 2024, at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on May 1, 1947, on the family farm in Readsboro, Vt. Maggie was the daughter of the late William James and Gladys Estes Kilbride. She attended Readsboro schools and graduated from Whitingham High School.

Maggie married Louis E. Furlon on May 1, 1965. He predeceased her on July 9, 2013. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Maggie was employed in retail sales through the years, working at the former Hills Department Store, Walmart and Charlemont Inn, as well as being a longtime local Tupperware and Avon agent. Maggie was a volunteer and member of the Ladies Auxiliary for the Florida Fire Department and enjoyed being very active with the Florida Senior Center.

She was an avid crafter and profoundly loved gardening and baking many of her mother's homemade recipes. She was an accomplished seamstress, making many of her clothes, as well as her and Lou's matching outfits when they were involved with the Tri-State Cloggers. She exuberated strength, a stubborn will and a feisty personality and was never one to beat around the bush when it came to saying what needed to be said or done. She loved huskies, raising two over the years, one named after her and one named Kayla, as well as all of her children's furry family members. She also occasionally enjoyed hunting, often bagging the biggest deer in the family. Most importantly, there wasn't a snowman knickknack that she turned away.

Maggie is survived by two sons, Shane Furlon (Aimee) of Charlemont and Bradley Furlon (Connie) of Florida; a daughter, Lisa Furlon Tanner of Florida; six grandchildren, Justin Furlon, Chelsea Fenton (Thomas), Cecelia Furlon, Katelyn Furlon and her companion Matthew Fenwick, Spenser Tanner, Krista Furlon and her companion Branden Knysh, and a great-granddaughter, Evelyn Fenton. She also leaves a brother John "Jack" Kilbride (Josie) of Searsburg, Vt., her sister-in-law Beverly Kilbride of Bennington, Vt., and many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

She was predeceased by her brother Harry Kilbride (Beverly).

FUNERAL NOTICE: A graveside service for Margaret Louise Furlon will take place on Sunday, July 14, at 2 p.m. at Church Cemetery in Florida. Memorial donations may be made to the Florida Volunteer Fire Department at 379 Mohawk Trail, Drury, MA 01343. To add to the Book of Memories, please visit flynndagnolifuneralhomes.com.

I'll never forget the times she drove me to drivers ed, her whoopie pies, checking in on me while house sitting, or all the times she had us in for lunch and dinner after the days of play in the field or down at the river. Rest easy Maggie, say hi to everyone for me. Sending our love to Brad, Connie, Katelyn & Matt, Krista and Branden. Love y'all
