Virginia J. Garceau, 89

ADAMS, Mass. — Virginia J. Garceau, 89, of Adams, passed away Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at the Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield.

Born in North Adams on June 29, 1934, daughter of Edward and Jennie Daniels Oliver she attended Adams schools including the former Adams High School.

She became employed by several local businesses including the former Newberry's Store and Wall-Streeter Shoe Co., both in North Adams, and ALADCO and L.L. Brown Co., both in Adams. Virginia was also part owner of the former Body Firm Workout Center in North Adams and was employed by the former New England Telephone Co. as an operator. She also operated a home day-care until the early 1990s.

She was a member of First Baptist Church in North Adams. She enjoyed bowling in her earlier years,  shopping with her daughter and, most of all, loved spending time with her family.

Her husband Joseph E. Garceau, whom she married on June 2, 1951, died October 18, 2017.

She is survived by a daughter, Pamela Lillie Davis (Larry) of Adams; two grandchildren, William Lillie Jr. (Tonya) of Petersburg, NY., and Jennifer Maxwell (Marshall) of Cheshire; give great-grandchildren, Skiler, Chasity and Seth Lillie, and Samara and Cole Maxwell; two great-great-grandchildren, Brantley and Finn; a sister, Betty Butler of Adams, several nieces and nephews and her cat, Buffy.

She was predeceased by two brothers, Edward and Walter Oliver.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Services for Virginia will take place Friday, June 28, at  noon from TROTTIER PRINGLE FUNERAL HOME, 6 Summer St., Adams, MA. 01220, with burial to follow in Bellevue Cemetery in Adams. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Friday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service. Donations in her memory can be made to the Northern Berkshire EMS in care of the funeral home. The family would like to thank Nurse Brian from the CCU at BMC and Chaplin Colette Hanlon for all their care and compassion that Virginia received while at BMC.
