Jeannine Smith, 92
Jeannine Theresa (Cote) Smith, 92, of North Adams died on Monday, June 17, 2024, at her home surrounded by family.
She was born in Attleboro, MA on December 22, 1931, a daughter of the late Homer and Angelina (Rougeau) Cote.
Jeannine was a graduate of St. Joseph High School in North Adams and received a bachelor’s degree in education from the former North Adams State College in 1974. She began her career teaching at Clarksburg Elementary School. Jeannine later went into the banking field as a customer service rep for Williamstown National Bank and stayed there as the bank changed ownership multiple times.
She married James Henry Smith, Jr. on October 13, 1956, in Notre Dame Church, North Adams. Together, the two celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary in 2006. He predeceased her on December 12 of the same year.
Throughout her life, Jeannine was an avid bridge player, hosting her beloved bridge club countless times. She also loved to travel to various places in the United States and to Europe as well, but mostly she loved her hometown of North Adams. Upon retirement, she volunteered at the North Adams Historical Society.
She had a profound appreciation for the cultural activities across Berkshire County. She was a regular at the Williamstown Theater Festival, Tanglewood, Mass MOCA and the Norman Rockwell Museum.
At the end of her life, she was cared for by three wonderful people: Shaley, Brittany and Monica. The family offers them their enduring gratitude.
Jeannine is survived by her son Stephen Smith and his wife Donna of Pittsfield and their children, Isabelle, Oliver and Alexander, upon whom she relentlessly doted. She also leaves behind Jakob Kelly of Pittsfield. In addition, she is survived by her loving niece Peggy Partrich and her husband Wes of Taylor, MI and their son Jacob. Jeannine was predeceased by her son Christopher Smith on January 17, 2020.
