Louis J. Chalifoux, 80
Louis J. Chalifoux, 80, died peacefully on February 25, 2024, at the Allied Services Inpatient Hospice Unit, Scranton, PA surrounded by his loving family.
Lou is survived by his beloved wife, Susan Carlton. They recently celebrated 57 years of marriage, a testament to the enduring strength of their commitment.
Born August 9, 1943, and raised in North Adams, MA, Lou was the cherished son of Louis and Alice Chalifoux. He attended Drury High School and graduated from St. Joseph's High School, laying the foundation for a life marked by service, faith, and compassion.
Most of Lou's professional journey took him throughout New England as a salesperson for several different companies. In his final career, he found immense fulfillment as a college adviser to high school seniors and their families. He and his wife, Susan, were the proud owners of Feminine Twist, a women's clothing shop for over 10 years. He loved the beautiful town of North Adams and all the Berkshires had to offer.
His infectious enthusiasm for life extended to his faith and involvement with his church, where he played an active role as a CCD teacher and eucharistic minister for many years.
Lou had a passion for travel, especially when shared with his loved ones. A devoted New England Patriots fan, he found immense joy in family gatherings, delicious meals, engaging conversations, a brisk walk, and, of course, a good bargain.
He so enjoyed trips to his son's home in Hull, MA to spend time with his grandchildren exploring the beach. In 2020, Lou and Susan made the decision to move to Taylor, PA, to be closer to two of their children, reflecting the priority he placed on family bonds.
Lou was a beacon of optimism, celebrating the accomplishments of those he held dear. He was always proud of his family and quick to offer a genuine compliment. His role as a faithful husband, father, and grandfather left an indelible mark on the hearts of those who knew him.
Attending the activities his grandchildren participated in brought him the utmost joy. He was by far their biggest cheerleader. He leaves behind an enduring legacy of love, joy, and devotion.
The family extends sincere thanks and gratitude to the caring and compassionate doctors, nurses, and staff at DaVita, Old Forge, Geisinger CMC 4 th floor, and the Allied Inpatient Hospice Unit.
Lou is also survived by his adoring wife, Susan; his children, Beth Florey and husband Richard, of Clarks Summit PA, Brett, of Clarks Summit, PA, and Brad and wife Kristy of Hull, MA; and his beloved grandchildren, Colin, Evan, Bryce, Liam, and Addie. He is also fondly remembered by numerous nieces and nephews. Lou was preceded in death by his sisters, Sylvia Kaigle-Kately and Shirley Boucher.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on March 9th at 10:00 am at the Church of St. Benedict's, Clarks Summit, PA. Friends may call Saturday morning from 9:00 am until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations in Louis' name to St. Vincent de Paul, 500 Marshall St, North Adams, MA 01247.
