Preston M. McClanahan III, 90
Mr. Preston Moore McClanahan III, 90, of Cranston, RI and Savoy, MA, died on Monday, February 12, 2024, at Hope Hospice in Providence, RI.
He was born in Charleston, West Virginia on December 23, 1933, son of the late Preston and Katherine McClanahan. He graduated high school in West Virginia, then went on to earn his bachelor’s degree from the Art Academy of Cincinnati.
Mr. McClanahan last worked as a professor for the Rhode Island School of Design in Providence, RI, until retiring. Earlier he had worked as an exhibit designer for the late Dr. Margaret Mead at the American Museum of Natural History and was a prominent visual and installation artist in New York City.
He was a communicant of the Parish of St. Mary’s Church in Cranston, RI, and attended St. John Paul II in Adams, MA.
He is survived by his wife, Magdalena, his son Noel McClanahan of the Berkshires, his daughter Eve McClanahan and her husband Stephen Katz of New York; their daughter Charlotte, and his second grandchild Preston, by his daughter- in law- Rachel Atwood.
He was predeceased by his son Peter McClanahan who died on February 16, 2022.
The funeral will be held on Thursday, February 22nd at 11:30 A.M. from the PACIOREK FUNERAL HOME, 13 Hoosac St., Adams, MA 01220, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 12:00 Noon in Notre Dame des Sept Douleurs Church, Maple St., Adams.
Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery, Adams.
Calling hours are Thursday morning from 10:30 A.M. until 11:30 A.M. at the funeral home.
Memorial donations may be made to Eve McClanahan for an education fund for Mr. McClanahan’s grandson, Preston, through the funeral home.
