Janice Duguay Messier, 80
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Janice Mae (Brulé) Duguay Messier, 80 of North Adams, MA passed away peacefully February 2, 2024 at her home surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in North Adams, MA on August 5, 1943, a daughter of Arthur Napoleon Brulé and Edith (Rivers) Brulé. Her stepmother was Margaret (Mancuso) Brulé. Janice graduated from the former St. Joseph’s High School in 1961.
She was last employed by the City of Springfield Housing Authority where she worked for 15 years until her retirement. Before that, she worked at the former Ico-Rally in North Adams. Janice was a longtime active member of the Springfield Lions Club and was a former president of the club. She enjoyed knitting, reading, sitting in the sun, and most of all spending time with her family.
She was the widow of Robert George Duguay who died on January 19, 1989. They were married on July 25, 1964. Her second husband Richard Messier also predeceased her. Survivors include her daughter, Jennifer Ann (John) Mach of North Adams and two grandchildren, Erica (Jordan) Stillwaugh of Readsboro, VT and Tyler Mach of Tahoe, CA. She also leaves her great grandson, Micaiah Stillwaugh; her sister, D. Charron (Franco) Caparello of Utica, NY; her brother, Wayne (Linda) Brulé of Nokomis, FL and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sisters and two brothers- Norma Cournoyer, Lorraine Raymond, Arthur Brulé and Robert Brulé who died in infancy.
The family would like to thank Hospice of the Berkshires for their support and care they provided during her final days.
FUNERAL NOTICE: A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Janice Duguay Messier will be celebrated Saturday February 10, 2024 at 10:00 AM at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery. A calling hour at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, CENTRAL CHAPEL, 74 Marshall St. North Adams, MA will be Saturday morning from 8:30-9:30 AM.
