Barbara Agostini
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Barbara Agostini, a beloved resident of North Adams, MA, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2024, at the age of 80, after bravely battling cancer. She was born on February 12, 1943, to the late Louis and Racheal (Amidio) Montagna and grew up in a close-knit community that she cherished throughout her life.
Barbara confronted both moments of joy and adversity with steadfast strength, becoming a source of inspiration for those fortunate enough to be in her circle. Sadly, she experienced the loss of her brother, Louis Wayne Montagna, on December 6, 1992, a sorrow that she carried with grace. Furthermore, Barbara was preceded in death by her first husband, Thomas Morton, Sr., on June 9, 1980. Together, they navigated life hand in hand, creating a tapestry woven with love and unwavering devotion.
In the journey of life, Barbara found love again with her second husband, Alan Agostini, who she married on May 3, 1985, survives her. Their companionship brought joy and warmth to her later years, creating a home filled with love, laughter, and shared memories.
Barbara Agostini had a rich history of academic and professional achievements. She graduated from Drury High School in North Adams, MA, in 1961, and continued her education at Baypath College in Longmeadow, MA, earning her degree in 1963. Her dedication to her community extended to her professional life, where she served as the secretary for the Williamstown Zoning Board of Appeals, Planning Board, and the Building Inspectors office from 1978 to 1984. Subsequently, from 1984 to 2006, Barbara made significant contributions to Williams College. Initially, she served as the secretary to the Assistant Director of Alumni Relations, and later, she took on the roles of Activities Coordinator in the Office of Campus Life and as the co-editor of the Williams Weekly Calendar, where she cherished her time as one of the "calendar girls".
Upon her retirement, Barbara dedicated her time to meaningful community involvement, exemplifying her generous spirit. She volunteered with the Williamstown Holiday Walk Committee, brought joy to families through the Salvation Army's "Angel Project," and played an active role in the Sts. Patrick and Raphael Parish. There, she co-chaired their annual bake sale, leaving a sweet legacy of service and kindness in the hearts of all those she touched.
Barbara will be remembered as a loving and devoted mother and grandmother. She leaves behind her children, Thomas Morton, Jr. of Lanesboro, MA, Kristin (Morton) Gilman and her husband Trevor of North Adams, MA and Allison “Buffy” (Morton) Robinson and her husband Corey of Easthampton, MA. In addition to her children, she leaves behind a legacy through her adoring grandchildren: Sydney Robinson, Rachael Robinson, Nicholas Gilman, Isiah Locklear, Hannah Locklear and Thomas Morton, III.
Her legacy lives on through the values she instilled in her family and the countless moments they shared together. Her role as a grandmother brought her immense joy, and the special bonds she created with her grandchildren enriched their lives in countless ways.
Barbara's impact reached beyond her immediate family and extended to the close-knit communities she was a part of. In North Adams, she fostered deep connections with her neighborhood friends, creating a network of support and camaraderie that made her community a warmer place.
In addition to her local community, Barbara found joy and friendship in Anna Maria, FL. There, she forged lasting connections with friends who shared in her love for the sun-soaked shores and vibrant atmosphere. The friendships she cultivated in Anna Maria added another layer of richness to her life, creating a network of companionship that transcended geographical boundaries. Whether in the quiet streets of North Adams or the sunny landscapes of Anna Maria, Barbara's presence and warmth left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to call her friend.
A memorial service to celebrate Barbara's life will be held at 11:00AM on Thursday, January 25, 2024 at Sts. Patrick and Raphael Parish in Williamstown, MA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Deputy Sheriffs’ Association of Berkshire County in Barbara's honor.
