Sylvia Liporace, 91

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. —  Sylvia Eleanor (Duperault) Liporace, 91, of Worcester, MA., former long-time resident of North Adams, MA., passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2024. Her cause of death was cancer. She also suffered in recent years from Alzheimer's Disease.

Born in Wilmington, VT., on June 14, 1932, daughter of Edna (Duperault) Lapierre, Sylvia was raised by her grandparents, Sophie and Joseph Duperault in Readsboro, VT. along with her eleven cousins. She also had one step-brother (Joseph) and two step-sisters (Mary and Lorraine). Attending elementary schools in North Adams, she graduated from Drury High School in 1950. Shortly after graduation, she and a friend drove cross country in a $300 used car to live in Pasadena, California.

After her return to North Adams, she met her future husband Anthony C. Liporace on a blind date. They were married on June 11, 1955 in Notre Dame Church. She was employed for many years at the former Sprague Electric Company in the accounts payable department. Later she worked at the former Sprague Electric Credit Union until her retirement in 1994.

Her faith was always a guiding force in her life. She was a communicant of St. Elizabeth of Hungary Parish in North Adams.

She enjoyed time spent at the beaches of Maine, traveling, antiquing, attending events and sporting games for her grandchildren, adult coloring, word searches and starting her day with coffee and The Berkshire Eagle, a tradition she continued after her move to Worcester. Her sharp wit, wisdom and strength will be greatly missed. Sylvia was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She also achieved her life-long dream of becoming a great grandmother in 2021 at the age of 89.

She leaves two daughters, Deborah Crandall of Worcester, with whom she made her home, and Mary Jane (Michael) Jachimczyk of Millbury; two sons, Mark A. (Ann Fyfe) Liporace of Stamford, Vt., and Anthony C. Liporace Jr. of Clarksburg, grandchildren Robert Jachimczyk of Worcester, Jamie Liporace of North Adams, Michael (Erin) Jachimczyk of Middleboro, Angela Liporace of North Adams, Matthew Jachimczyk of Millbury and Joseph Liporace of Washington D.C., and her beloved great grandchildren Carter and Carlie.

She is pre-deceased by her husband, Anthony C. Liporace Sr., who passed away on Dec. 24, 2003
